Extensive alluvial forest belts line the Lech, but they differ greatly. They are divided into willow-tamarisk scrub, dry riparian forest and softwood riparian forest.

But the different types of alluvial forest have one thing in common: they are dependent on regular flooding, which constantly brings new sediment and washes up nutrients.
