Lady's Slipper Area in the Martinau Meadow

The shoe that comes out of the flower

"The shoe that comes out of the flower" - the shoe-shaped flower gives the plant this name. This orchid is a sensitive species and loves semi-shady riparian forests. In Europe's largest contiguous area of lady's slipper, the Lechauen near MartinauIt colonises the water-permeable limestone gravel soil of the dry pine riparian forest. Due to the rich populations of lady's slipper, this area is one of the most valuable alluvial forests in Central Europe. Take a walk through the Lech floodplains near Martinau and be amazed. Spectacularly bright lady's slipper plants line a 450 metre long network of paths. It's not just botanists who go into raptures at this wonderful sight!

The lady's slipper is very sensitive and highly endangered due to plundering and habitat destruction. We therefore ask all visitors to Responsible and lenient behaviourso that this stock can be preserved and admired in the future.
The Elmen-Pfafflar and Vorderhornbach mountain rescue teams look after this treasure on a voluntary basis during the flowering period (only from mid-May to mid-June).
Thank you very much!
