Listera Ovata

Another orchid species at home in the Tiroler Lech Nature Park is the Listera ovata). It grows to a height of 20 to 50cm. This orchid species has two egg-shaped leaves at the lower end of the stem. The unimposing 20-40 flowers are clustered. The lower flowers of the cluster flower first, then the other flowers above join in bit by bit . The seeds in the lower capsules can already be ripe, when the upper flowers start flowering. Pollination is conducted in particular by wasps.

The listera ovata is  found mainly in forests, on half-dry grassland, in humid pasture and low moors. This orchid species ranks also among the completely protected plant species according to the Tirolean Nature Conservation Regulations of 2006.
